FAQ #1290

This is how easy it is to create multiple FTP accounts in your internet package

In your password protected customer area you have the possibility of assigning FTP accounts for the web space of your internet package. You can allow certain people or groups FTP access to an area that you determined in advance.

To do so, log in to your password protected Customer Service Area Then, in the lower right work area, select the desired package by clicking on the order number or via the Your Package button.

You will now see a sub-menu on the left side. Select the menu options Management and Manage FTP accounts..

Then, in the right work area you will see an overview of the existing FTP accounts:

In this overview of the existing FTP accounts, you will also see the corresponding start directory under the user name. This means that users who log in with this FTP user name only have the ability to work within this directory and any directories below it. There is no access to higher directories.

If you would like to create a new FTP account, please click on Create new FTP account..

After clicking on change, a page to edit an existing account will be displayed.

If you would like to delete an account, please place a check mark in the corresponding box. By clicking on the Delete highlighted link, all highlighted entries on this page are deleted

Note: Theglobal account cannot be deleted. This is listed at the very top of every overview page and is highlighted in color

Create new FTP account

The following information is required:

  • Select user name
The user name for the FTP accounts to be created is composed of several components.
    • Name
    • In order to avoid possible misunderstandings and mix-ups with email addresses, the prefix "ftp_" is suggested for FTP accounts. This is shown for better comprehension; however, it can also be changed or deleted. You can select the user name as desired. The name must consist of at least 1 character and may contain up to 30 characters.

Which characters are permitted can be seen in the following article:

    • Domain
The domain is also a component of the user name and can be selected as desired from the domains existing in the package (including all subdomains).
Your domains are sorted alphabetically. Umlaut and IDN domains are displayed in Punycode.

You will receive an error message for a user name that is already used as an email alias. It is not possible to use this user name for the FTP account.

If the name is already available as an email mailbox name, you will be asked if the data entered during the mailbox creation (user name and password) should also apply for the FTP account. If you agree, the password specified for the user name during the first assignment (for example, for email) will also be used for the FTP account.

You will receive an error message for a user name that is already used as an email alias. It is not possible to use this user name for the FTP account.
